Eulogy for Brent by Sue McGovern
Hi, my name is Susan and I am a friend of Brent’s from Connecticut. I have known Brent for about 6 years and in that time we shared a lot of good, funny times together. I just wanted to reflect on that today.
Brent had the kindest heart. He was thoughtful and very funny.
He was also very empathetic towards anyone who was experiencing any pain. Brent was witty and one of the most brilliant guys I have ever met. I could sit with him for hours and never get bored of our conversations.
I also admired Brent’s great love for his family and friends. He would speak with such gratitude and love for his parents for everything they had given him and all the ways in which they helped him when he was sick. He adored Janelle and spoke about how much he loved her. He thought so highly of her and her accomplishments. He also met a wonderful girl named Linda who he spoke about with heart felt thoughts.
Lastly, he loved his friends. He especially spoke with such love about his friends he grew up with and how they were his lifetime friends. He thought he didn’t need much more than that. He also loved God and had mentioned to me a number of times of how grateful he was for everything God had given him. So when we look back Brent had achieved the ultimate that one could have in life; to have loved and to know he was loved.
So today I say Brent we will miss you, I will miss you. I will miss our long talks, I will miss your smile, your great manners and your love. I will miss your great sense of humor, your brilliance and most importantly your love of God. Today we know that you are with God and I am grateful to have met you. I am grateful to your parents and to God for having you in our lives. We will miss you and until we meet again, your spirit will live on in each one of us.
In closing, I was thinking that Brent would have wanted to leave you all with something so I thought this poem would be appropriate; something that Brent would have wanted you all to have
Remember
When you remember me, it means that you have carried something of who I am with you,
That I have left some mark of who I am on who you are.
It means that you can summon me back to your mind even though countless years and miles may stand between us. It means that if we meet again you will know me.
It means that even after I die, you can still see my face and hear my voice and speak to me in your heart
For as long as you remember me, I am never entirely lost.
